News from the Agriforvalor Study visit in Hungary

First hub mission - September 2017

CakePHP AGRIFORVALOR wants to contribute to better exploitation of research results in agriculture & forestry for the sake of enhanced innovation in biomass valorisation. For this aim, 3 study visits are organised for practitioners & researchers.

The first such international study visit was held on 19. /20. September 2017 in Hungary, with the participation of 20 researchers, farmers and foresters. Irish, Spanish and Hungarian experts of forestry and agriculture attended the two-day visit, a fair share of them practitioners and enterprises.

On the first day, the group visited Hungrana Ltd. and Pannonia Ethanol Ltd in rural Hungary. Both enterprises work on producing bioethanol and various related products from corn. They are one of the most important enterprises in Hungary in this field. The first day was rounded up by a pitching session in the evening, where participants could learn about innovation ideas from each other in their special fields of expertise and build new B2B connections.

On the second day of the visit, the group visited the annual National Agriculture and Food Exhibition (OMÉK) in Budapest, Hungary. At this venue, they participated at the Bio-East project's conference on bioeconomy development in Central and Eastern Europe. Agriforvalor and the cooperation methods in a Horizon 2020 project was the theme of one of the breakout sessions of this conference. The Irish hub manager, James Gaffey and the Hungarian hub manager, Katalin Kurucz presented their challenges and experiences with the creation of a biomass innovation design hub in their countries and the potential and existing cooperative activities that were launched within the project to an interested and active audience.

The Bio-East event was organised by the Hungarian Research Institute of Agricultural Economics in the framework of a Horizon 2020 project.

Agriforvalor was also presented at the stand of Bay Zoltán Nonprofit Ltd. for Applied Research at the OMÉK exhibition.
